The DE10 type was introduced in 1966 as a general-purpose diesel locomotive used on branch lines and for shunting freight cars. Among the DE10 type owned by JR East, the vehicles mainly used in the Tokyo metropolitan area have had a door added to the front of the bonnet on the two ends due to the installation of ATS-P, resulting in a change in appearance.
